Model–view–controller ( MVC ) is an architectural pattern commonly used for developing user interfaces that divides an application into three interconnected parts. This is done to separate internal representations of information from the ways information is presented to and accepted from the user. [1] [2] The MVC design pattern decouples these major components allowing for efficient code reuse and parallel development.

Traditionally used for desktop graphical user interfaces (GUIs), this architecture has become popular for designing web applications and even mobile, desktop and other clients. [3] Popular programming languages like Java , C# , Ruby , PHP and others have popular MVC frameworks that are currently being used in web application development straight out of the box .

As with other software patterns, MVC expresses the "core of the solution" to a problem while allowing it to be adapted for each system. [4] Particular MVC architectures can vary significantly from the traditional description here. [5]

A data model explicitly determines the structure of data. Data models are specified in a data modeling notation, which is often graphical in form.

Hi. Long time PHP-developer, but fairly new to Laravel and using the repository pattern. I have read plenty of articles, conversations and blogs about repositories. What I just don't seem to understand is when not to use them.

For example, I have a User model with a UserRepository interface and an EloquentUserRepository implementation of that interface.

What I don't understand is if the User model is really an Eloquent model, but I'm abstracting with an extra layer (my repository), is the above call to someMethod() breaking that pattern? If the repository is essentially hiding the "ORM" portion, should I be calling Eloquent/ORM-related methods on model?

Design patterns are usually related to object oriented design.
Are there design patterns for creating and programming relational databases ?
Many problems surely must have reusable solutions.

There's a book in Martin Fowler's Signature Series called Refactoring Databases . That provides a list of techniques for refactoring databases. I can't say I've heard a list of database patterns so much.

I would also highly recommend David C. Hay's Data Model Patterns and the follow up A Metadata Map which builds on the first and is far more ambitious and intriguing. The Preface alone is enlightening.

We review the behavior of stationary and moving spatially periodic patterns in a simple cross-flow fixed-bed reactor with a first-order exothermic reaction subject to the Danckwert’s boundary conditions and realistically high Le and Pe . Spatiotemporal patterns emerge due to the interaction of concentration and temperature balances, much like dynamic patterns in a CSTR. Moving waves emerge in an unbounded system, but they transform into stationary spatially inhomogeneous patterns in a bounded system above certain Pe threshold. The critical parameters of this threshold are derived analytically. A weakly nonlinear analysis is used in order to derive the governing amplitude equation.

The spatial behavior in the bounded system with Pe →∞ is analogous to the temporal behavior of the simple thermokinetic CSTR problem and the behavior of the distributed system is classified according to that of the lumped one. Both regular kinetics and oscillatory one (with reversible catalytic activity) are considered. Suggestions for experimental realization of these phenomena are discussed.
